Hope Starts Here
Ms. Latoya Freeman, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, who now resides in Antioch, Tennessee. She graduated Cum Laude from Knoxville College with her Associate of Science in General Studies with a Social Sciences concentration. Presently, she is enrolled at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore where is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology with a concentration in Child Development.
Ms. Freeman was the first in her family born with Albinism, but her family never allowed the condition to define her. Despite being classified as legally blind in first grade and transferring to a school for children with disabilities, her family supported her in pursuing her passions, which included becoming a cheerleader in middle school, high school, and college. She even returned to coach both her alma mater and little league cheerleading teams.
Ms. Freeman recognized her uniqueness and the lack of role models with Albinism, which inspired her to work with children, especially those with disabilities. She serves as a role model to her family because she has other family members who have been born with Albinism. She aims to empower individuals who are unique in their own ways, demonstrating that they are capable of achieving anything, even if it requires a longer journey.
Ms. Freeman is a charter member of Alpha Alpha Alpha, a first-generation college student honor society; Kappa Omicron Nu, the Human Ecology Honor Society; and Gamma Alpha Phi Nu Sorority, Inc., a non-collegiate organization that focuses on mental health.
Ms. Freeman is a mother of two, and remains a dedicated fan of Ohio sports teams. And in her free time she enjoys making resin art peices and going to comedy shows.
